Packaging printers prepare printing orders, examine, process and optimise the printing data and printing machinery and systems, mix the inks and carry out all the various steps needed to prepare for printing. Packaging printers oversee the printing porcess and take the appropriate measures if there are any faults or disruptions. Packaging printers work in commercial or industrial companies, using a range of different printing technologies. The corporate structure and products vary according to the printing technology being used. Usually they work with large and complex printing systems for flexo, gravure or digital printing. They oversee the printing process, monitor quality using various measuring techniques and optimise the process where necessary. They are often required to do shift work.

If you perform especially well at the vocational school and the company where you are doing your apprenticeship give their consent, you can also attend the Vocational Baccalaureate School during your basic training.
Final qualification
If you pass your final apprenticeship examination: Swiss federal certificate of proficiency as a packaging printer EFZ.
